Napier
The Art Deco capital of New Zealand - a very laid-back town with a thriving tourism and wine industry. In 1931, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake changed the town’s fortunes and geology by raising the ground by 2.5m and eliminating a lagoon. The reconstruction adopted the Art Deco style that was so popular at that time and, for the most part, they have been able to maintain that ambiance.
